In celebration of World Polio Day on October 24, 2020, Rotary District 7090 held the Dr. Ron Mergl Memorial Participate for PolioPlus event.  Lockport Rotary members donated generously, and three members of our club, Paul Lehman, Shelley Unocic and Dick Mullaney, took on the challenge of cycling the 15 mile route. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_MXPQQ-t_c&feature=youtu.be
Approximately 50 cyclists were out on a cold and blustery World Polio Day last October on both sides of the Niagara River, from the Rainbow Bridge to Queenston Heights and Lewiston.  A big shout out to the cyclists and donors in this ride to celebrate the life of Dr. Ron Mergl, a staunch supporter of Rotary and the fight to end Polio.  We're grateful to the support of all Rotarians in our club who raised over $2,000 this year in support of Rotary International's efforts to eradicate this disease. Combined with donations from Rotary Club members throughout District 7090, and matching grants from The Rotary Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this inaugural ride raised approximately $500,000 for PolioPlus.
